Despite having lived within walking distance to Clarendon Street in South Melbourne for the past 3 years, I’ve yet to try most of the restaurants in my local. An evening stroll had me exploring the street and stumbling on Salon De Sushi from across the road.

Fast forward several days, Menulog offered me a $30 voucher and after perusing their website, I was delighted that Salon De Sushi was one of the restaurants that offered a delivery service to my address. Ordering through Menulog was extremely simple, there’s a reason why they are at the top of the food chain when it comes to online takeaway.

Salon de Sushi offers the expected Japanese dishes such as sashimi and sushi and rolls. It was Meatless Monday for me and I was thrilled to see a whole heap of unique vegetarian items on the menu. I chose 3 veg rolls, while The Angmoh had a mixed sashimi plate and beef tataki.

Delivery was prompt and we were tucking into our food almost immediately after it’d arrived. Some photo-taking had to be done first (of course!) The delivery bag came all posh and fancy and each little chopstick set came individually wrapped, complete with saucer and soy sauce. Even condiments such as pickled ginger and wasabi were liberally offered in the takeaway boxes.

The Angmoh’s sashimi was fresh and generously sliced. However, he felt let down by the beef tataki. It looked like rare beef you would expect in a sandwich shop. However, he did think ordering that dish was a mistake on his part; it’d be better having it at the restaurant as soon as it was prepared.

I hit the jackpot with my meatless choices. The rolls had interesting fillings such as tempura eggplant and beetroot. I thought the tempura eggplant roll needed some dressing of sort as it was slightly bland. The beetroot was extremely lovely, with the fragrance of sesame seeds enveloping the sweet crunch from the purple root vegetable. The inside out rice paper rolls borrows the concept from the Vietnamese version and instead of bun (or Vietnamese vermicelli), it was stuffed with rice. The mushroom rolls came with a pleasant dressing although I did find the ginger slightly overpowering.

I really do need to explore my local eateries. Salon de Sushi is a great choice and would appeal to carnivores, pescetarians and vegetarians all around. And if you don’t feel like leaving home, you can order fuss-free through Menulog and get your meal delivered with utmost punctuality.

Japanese Delivery to Southbank

Thanks to Menulog for sponsoring this post. It’s straightforward to use, typing in your suburb generates a list of places that delivers to you and no log-in is required which saves heaps of time. It even lets you decide what time you would like your meal delivered, which I used to schedule the delivery for when I arrived home from work, ravenously hungry and ready to eat!

That looks like pretty nice sushi and sashimi for a delivery service, the mushroom sushi is so interesting too. I have used menulog before but the options for Caulfield isn’t great, the options for suburbs nearer to the city are a lot better.
